Cooking With Essential Oils






Are you cooking with essential oils? What do you add your essential oils to when creating recipes?

Here are some quick ways to add essential oils into your recipes . . . . 

Breakfast



1. Waffles: Add 1–4 drops of Orange essential oil to wet waffle mix. For frozen waffles, add essential oil to syrup instead!

2. Oatmeal: Add 1 drop of Cinnamon Bark and 2 drops of Orange essential oil to a bowl of oatmeal or oat bran, and then sweeten with Blue Agave.

3. Lemon with Berries: Add Lemon essential oil to berry smoothies, or to plain soy yogurt and top with berries.

Snacks


1. Vegan Cream Cheese Spread: Put softened vegan cream cheese into a bowl and mix in Lemon essential oil to taste.

2. Olive Oil Dipping Sauce: Add various culinary herb essential oils to your olive oil, such as Rosemary. Pour over a plate of balsamic vinegar and use focaccia bread for dipping.

Dinner


1. Tomato Pasta Sauce: Add 2 drops of Basil essential oil and 1 drop each of Rosemary and Thyme essential oil to tomato sauce base.

2. Potato Salad: Add 1–2 drops of Dill essential oil to your favorite potato salad recipe.

3. Rice Pilaf: Add 4 drops of Lemon essential oil to water before adding rice.

4. Salad and Fruit Rinse: Use 3 drops of Lemon essential oil in a bowl of water when rinsing lettuce, grapes, berries, and greens.

5. Mock Tuna Salad Sandwiches: Add 3 drops of Lemon essential oil per can of chick peas . . . chop and mix with celery, vegan mayo, Tumeric and freshly ground pepper. Spoon onto whole grain bread and serve topped with alfalfa sprouts.

Beverages


1. Hot Lemon Tea: In 1 cup of hot water, mix in 3 drops of Lemon essential oil and Blue Agave to taste.

2. Horchata with a Twist: Add 1 drop of Cinnamon Bark essential oil to a tall glass filled with ice and vanilla rice milk.

3. Vanilla Smoothie: Add 2 drops of Lemon or Peppermint essential oil to any vanilla smoothie. Peppermint also works great in a chocolate smoothie!

4. Flavored Water: Add 1 drop of Peppermint essential oil to your water bottle.

These are just a few ideas of the many uses for essential oils in your everyday meals and recipes!

Essential Oils & Diabetes


What Is Diabetes?


Diabetes is a group of diseases knows as Type I immune-mediated and Type II insulin-resistant diabetes mellitus and Gestational diabetes mellitus, which can even occur during some pregnancies. 

Diabetes is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease and premature death in Westernized countries today. Diabetes causes low energy and persistently high blood glucose. 

This is a disease in which the body is unable to produce or properly use and store glucose (a form of sugar).  Glucose backs up in the bloodstream, causing blood sugar to right dangerously high. Some of the signs of diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, increased hunger, blurry vision, irritability, tingling or numbness in hands or feet, wounds that don't heal, extreme fatigue, and frequent skin, bladder, or gum infections. 

HEALTH FACT: A U.S. Department of Agriculture study revealed that Americans eat an average of 32 teaspoons of sugar each day in their foods.

Types Of Diabetes


Type I Diabetes

Type I usually manifests by age 30 and is often considered to be genetic. It is a condition where the immune system mistakenly destroys the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. This is called the autoimmune response. According to many scientists, doctors and researchers, there is no way to cure Type I diabetes, however some researchers at Cairo University feel different.

Type II Diabetes

Type II generally manifests later in life and is most likely linked to poor nutrition. Type II diabetes accounts for about 90-95% of all diagnosed cases of diabetes. It usually begins with insulin resistance, a disorder in which the cells do not use insulin properly or there is not enough insulin to go around the body. The result is high levels of glucose in the blood. 

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is not unlike the other types, but researchers suggest that hormones are the contributing factor. The placenta produces large amounts of various hormones and some of them have been linked to blocking insulin. It is said that women who have had gestational diabetes have a 40-60% chance of developing diabetes in the next 5 to 10 years.

DIY Essential Oil-Infused Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments



Here's a fun project!! Grab the kids (even the adult ones!) and make these fun ornaments for the holidays together!






What You Need:

• 1 cup flour
• ½ cup salt
• ½ cup water
• Approximately 5 drops of essential oil ~ combination of Orange and Cinnamon Bark recommended
• Rolling pin
• Cookie cutters
• Baking sheet
• Paint, optional
• Ribbon

What You Do:

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Mix together flour and salt in a bowl, then stir in water and essential oils until smooth. Lightly flour countertop. Roll out dough until it is approximately ¼ inch thick. Cut out ornaments in desired shapes, and don’t forget to include a small hole to string ribbon through. (A plastic straw or wooden skewer works great for this.) Transfer shapes to ungreased baking sheet and cook for 2-3 hours, until completely dry. Remove from oven and allow to cool. At this stage, ornaments may be painted or decorated. String with ribbon, and your ornaments are done!
